DescriptionExplicit Direct Instruction – John Hollingsworth

Description:  Workshop for Administrators, Lead Teachers, and Instructional Coaches

Administrators and District leaders are taught strategic instructional practices for design and delivery of well-crafted lessons that explicitly teach grade-level content to all students.  This training will provide district leaders with coaching and feedback.  The training will also show how to build engagement into instruction so all students, including English Language Learners understand more the FIRST time they are taught.

John Hollingsworth will be back at ESU13 on August 15 and 16 to work with teachers.  The session this March will provide leaders with new instructional strategies.  The session will also allow leaders to determine if they want their staff to learn these new strategies and how to support the implementation of the new instructional strategies.

About the Presenter:  John Hollingsworth believes the best school reform is great initial teaching where students learn more the first time they are taught.  John’s company, DataWORKS Educational Research, focused initially on disaggregating student achievement results.  However, he came to realize that you don’t raise test scores by testing students; it’s by how you teach them.  With the goal of optimizing whole class instruction, he led DataWORKS in collecting and analyzing two million student assignments and observing 35,000 teachers.  John co-authored Explicit Direct Instruction:  The Power of the Well-Crafted, Well-Taught Lesson (Corwin Press, 2009).  He has worked with teachers across the United States and in China, Africa, and Central America.  He spends the bulk of his time training administrators and teachers, and presenting demonstration lessons in K-12 classrooms.
