DescriptionPM Session #27: Repeat of Return to Learn and Return to Play Following a Concussion

Descrition

Following a concussion, it is common for children and adolescents to experience difficulties in the school setting. Cognitive difficulties, such as learning new tasks or remembering previously learned material, may pose challenges in the classroom.
After attending this presentation, participants will understand the mechanism of concussion and how it affects learning, emotion, energy and physical activity and the most common medical and psychological factors that lead to a protracted recovery. Participants will learn how they can be instrumental in supporting Return to Learn (RTL) and Return to Play (RTP) efforts in the acute phase of concussion (Weeks 1 through 4) and learn how best to guide and support the general education teachers so that they can provide immediate, flexible and effective academic adjustments in the classroom. Participants will learn when and how to write Section 504 Plans for students following a concussion.
