THIS (MARCH 19, 2019)
Let's be honest--you either admit that you need a
refresher on the laws relating to student discipline, or you're relying too
much on past practice. Student discipline is perhaps the most susceptible
area of school law in Nebraska when it comes to simple mistakes in carrying out
lawful consequences. Unfortunately, these are almost always avoidable by
letting go of the notion that your experience necessarily means you know how to
do it right. This presentation will cover the statutory timelines and requirements
before turning to real cases and "hypotheticals" to analyze 21st
Century issues most of you will see to start 2018-19. You're in charge of
the "should," but we'll help make sure you feel more confident in the
"can" or "can't."
