DescriptionCommon Core State Standards for Mathematics place high value on student fluency with linear and non-linear functions. Shelby will address three topics: linear equations & functions, transformations on non-linear functions, and slope as a rate of change. He will address linear equations & functions through discussion of a project involving how to predict the height of a football stadium row, transformations on non-linear functions through Geogebra use, providing a short tutorial for participants on how to craft simple Geogebra sheets with powerful pedagogical implications, and understanding slope as a rate of change through linear modeling problems used in AP Statistics at a level accessible to Algebra 1 students. Participants will come away with access to electronic resources used in the presentation.
